"KAURARIESKA" Oatmeal Flat Bread

Recipes by Foreigners in Finland

Kaurarieska bread doesn't need yeast and also an egg-less recipe. For a lactose-free diet, use lactose-free butter and milk. This is one of my most favorite bread that is very easy to make. Kaurareiska can be best done with leftover oatmeal porridge that has been in the refrigerator overnight as the texture of the porridge becomes thicker. However, a newly cooked oatmeal porridge can also be done, then an additional 1 dl/100 ml flour in this recipe is recommended. Please see my other video on how to cook the "Healthy Oatmeal Porridge" Recipe.

INGREDIENTS:

5 dl / 500 ml of leftover oatmeal porridge

4 dl / 400 ml of wheat flour

2 tablespoon of olive or vegetable oil

2 dl /200 ml of fresh milk

1 teaspoon salt

Topping after it's cooked 30 grams melted butter for brushing

BAKING INSTRUCTION:

Preheat oven at 220°C (428°F). Meanwhile, in a bowl, mix the first five ingredients except for butter and blend it well using a spatula. Prepare oven pan, and sprinkle a bit of water before placing the baking paper. The dough mixture is quite sticky so you need extra flour to sprinkle on top of the baking paper. Divide the dough into 6 and place them in the pan. Then with the help of a spatula, spread the dough to shape it flat and round. Then sprinkle flour on top again and wash your hands with flour then tap the dough gently with your hands. Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes until light brown. When the bread is cooked and while it is still hot, brush both sides with melted butter to remove excess flour.

Enjoy this oatmeal flatbread whether hot or cold. Serve it with butter, sliced ham, cheese, fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumber. Also perfect with any kind of jam.

A list of ingredients is shown in the video in English and Finnish language. Please see the video for visual preparation and baking instruction

STORAGE: You may store it for up to 3 days at room temperature or refrigerator. Reheating in a bread toaster. Storing in the freezer for many weeks is also very good because the texture doesn't really change. Reheating in the oven at 160°Celsius for 8 minutes.

Enjoy!
